JoAnn Tolentino

Teacher. Compliance Professional. Grandmother.

I’m JoAnn Tolentino. After 46 years of marriage, raising 4 children who are now wonderful parents themselves, and adopting a child from foster care, I’ve learned that strong families build strong communities — and strong communities deserve representation that listens.

For 34 years I taught private music lessons. I studied Music Therapy and saw firsthand how the arts, reading, and the basics can light up a child’s confidence. I’ve also worked in Governance, Risk, and Compliance — experience that taught me how to read a budget, spot waste, and demand transparency.

Now I’m running for Washington State Representative in the 45th Legislative District, Position 1, because Olympia needs more common sense and less party dogma.

Unity & Fairness
  • Election Integrity. As a compliance professional, I value transparency. We must ensure every vote counts — through voter ID, paper ballots, and bipartisan oversight — so Americans can trust election outcomes.
  • Free Speech & Parental Rights. Parents, not politicians, should guide their children’s education and healthcare. Let’s restore local control and open dialogue in schools.

Compassion & Community
  • Mental Health & Addiction. We need treatment, not just punishment. Fund recovery programs and hold systems accountable — because every life has dignity.
  • Immigration. Support legal immigration and the rule of law, while ensuring humane processing and border security that reflects our values.
  • Family & Stability. After 46 years of marriage, I know strong families build strong communities. Let’s support them with policies that empower, not divide.

Wisdom

Lead with Experience & Education
  • Education Reform. As a music teacher, I saw how the arts and the basics — reading and math — inspire kids. Focus on proven curricula, involve parents, and keep politics out of classrooms.
  • Honest History. Reject CRT and gender-ideology debates in classrooms. Teach history honestly, celebrate our nation’s progress, and let children be children.

Economy

Promote Practical Growth
  • Housing & Zoning. Streamline permitting and reform zoning to build more affordable homes — so young families and seniors can live with dignity.
  • Energy & Environment. Support reliable energy — fossil fuels, nuclear, hydro — to keep bills low and lights on, while encouraging innovation that protects our air and water.
  • Fiscal Responsibility. I worked in compliance — waste and fraud have no place in government. Audit every dollar and pass balanced budgets.
